THE ORIGIN: THE NAME & THE SYMBOL
Founded by sisters Sofia and Daniela Roch, NA•WA is a curatorial platform that bridges science, ancestry, and contemporary culture.
What began as a childhood language between us evolved into a philosophy of living, one that translates wellbeing into design, movement, and dialogue.​NA•WA existed before the project took form. When we were children, we heard the word nawa in a documentary.We didn’t understand its meaning or the context of the moment, but something in its sound stayed with us.
It felt fluid, balanced, and alive, a word that somehow contained movement.

We began to use it playfully, combining it with other invented words.
From that space of imagination came Verynawa Maelu, a name that represented us as sisters and the creative bond we already shared.
Years later, life unfolded and Maelu became Sofia’s daughter’s name, while NA•WA remained quiet but present, like an idea waiting for its time.​When it came to naming our work, NA•WA resurfaced naturally.
Later, we discovered that in several ancestral languages, the word relates to ideas of essence, connection, and flow.
What began as intuition revealed itself as meaning, a word that mirrored what we wanted to create: continuity, awareness, and rhythm.

The same philosophy shaped the design of NA•WA’s logo.
Its inspiration comes from ancient Greek mythology, the serpent from the Rod of Asclepius and the Bowl of Hygieia, symbols of medicine, wisdom, and regeneration.We see it as a symbol of life’s ability to adapt and restore itself, a movement that heals through awareness.

Our logo translates that principle into form. Two lines cross and weave to create an organic, continuous shape that represents the intersection of energies: movement and stillness, body and mind, innovation and ritual.
At their meeting point, transformation occurs and coherence emerges from contrast.
The shape itself recalls the name NA•WA, fluid, balanced, and cyclical. It imitates the motion within the word, a flow that separates and reunites, curves and returns.
Designed to feel alive rather than static, it reflects the pulse of natural systems and the dialogue between science and sensibility.
It embodies what we create, experiences, environments, and collaborations that bring rhythm, clarity, and depth into the practice of wellbeing.
NA•WA is both a name and a living symbol, an evolving language of care, connection, and creation.
